Never use cotton buds to clean your ears or remove wax. They only compact the wax and push it nearer to the eardrum, which can make the problem worse.

A Little Wax is Good. Too Much is an Issue.

We all have ear wax, which is good because it plays an important role in keeping our ear canals healthy. See some facts about ear wax and see what we mean.

But too much? Well, that’s bad.

If it becomes excessive, or compacted, then we have a problem – often a loss of hearing due to external sounds not being able to make it to the eardrum.

It’s not necessary to remove wax unless it becomes excessive or is affecting your hearing. When it does, there are some simple things you can do. Softeners are available from high-street pharmacies and can be effective if the wax build–up isn’t too great.

Treatment: Micro-suction

Our fully trained hearing healthcare professionals remove ear wax safely and gently using the micro-suction technique. It’s quick, comfortable, and completely syringe-free.

5 Fascinating Facts about Ear Wax

It turns out the stuff in your ears is more interesting than you might think.

1
There are 2 Types...

Ear wax comes in wet and dry varieties. Your type depends by and large on your genetic make–up. Those from north-eastern Asia are more likely to have dry ear wax, while ear wax for most people in other regions tends to be wet.

2
It’s Linked to Body Odour...

The gene responsible for people having dry ear wax is also responsible for them having less body odour than those with wet ear wax. Who knew?

3
It Can Diagnose Disease...

Certain metabolic conditions like Maple Syrup Urine Disease (not making this up) and Alkaptonuria can be identified in ear wax long before traditional blood and urine tests would be able to catch them.

4
It Helped Map Human History...

Ear wax has been genuinely useful to anthropologists studying mankind’s early migratory patterns across the globe.

5
It Knows Where You’ve Been...

Odours in ear wax can often tell us what a person has eaten, or where in the world they have been (but don’t worry, if you come to us for ear wax removal treatment, we won’t sniff your ear wax. Promise)
